Cool new app for the fashion critic and advice seeker

Check out fashism, a new app that allows users to submit pictures of outfits to which users can vote "like it" or "hate it" and comment. Pretty cool when you're in doubt about your outfit or feel like browsing street fashion for inspiration.

My collection- first garment

This is my first garment in my pinup girl collection, inspired by lingerie. There is a short slit on center front for walkability as well as some decorative beading under the bust. More to come...

Cheap Thrills

Due to my college student lack of monetary resources, I went in search of cheap fashion thrills. One cool site I found was Heavenly Couture (http://www.getheavenly.com). Everything is under $19.99 usd, and they have a cool selection of basic- with- a- twist items. The shirt in the picture is $15. Cool beans! A girl can stock up AND save up. Fashion win.

Just Beautiful

I found this lovely gem browsing the interweb today. I am an avid knitter and a crochet apprentice, so I was in love when I saw what Sheila Hoag can do with linen and a crochet hook... her stuff (and the entire textile arts website) is worth investigating for the fashionatti. It's easy to appreciate the beauty of the craft, but equally beautiful is the skill and thoughtfulness that goes into each stitch. <3

Snow day

Today, there was so much snow on the ground that I dared not go anywhere (hello, my name is Elena, and I'm a Wisconsinite). I got to finish my homework, and I also got to put in some good old fashioned fashion research! This dress (SO cute, SO spring- which I could use) was certainly blogworthy, and so is the website, which never ceases to amaze me. They offer new and vintage items, user ratings, a "love it" button, and they welcome users' input in their "you be the buyer" section! How fantastic for the gal who, like myself, not only wants to buy, but needs creative input. Check it out!

Hello, world!

Hi! Let me introduce myself. My name is Elena and I am a senior fashion design student. I'm a knitter, sewer, drawer and generally crafty person. I'm always keeping an eye on the runway and on the streets for inspiration. I decided to start this blog to explore fashion and document my work, hopefully with some of your input along the way. Successful designers need input and love it for the creative thought that criticism envokes. I hope you enjoy reading my blog!

Above: Edward Runci's pinup artwork from thepinupfiles.com. My collection for the May fashion show is based on pinup girls, and some of Runci's art in particular.

What is your favorite small way to completely change your look?
